Here we are again at the close of another year and getting ready to embark on a new one! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Savior. The true meaning of Christmas! I know for our family as always it turned out to be a holiday full of memories and birthdays! Not only did we celebrate the birth of Jesus, but we also celebrated the birth of my husband and our son! Which means extra spending for this mama! I wanted to take some time for this blog post to reflect on December’s celebrations before it was all said and done.
For the Kruckenberg family we have a few traditions when it comes to celebrating birthdays. One tradition we started was whosever birthday we are celebrating they get to choose what the family dinner is for that night. For my husband his choice of a birthday dinner every year is steak and pasta. For my son what else would a three-year-old love to have for dinner than popcorn chicken and mac and cheese. Oh yeah cake!
What would a birthday celebration be without cake? So, for my husband’s birthday I thought I would be Betty Crocker this year and bake a Boston crème cake that would be Pinterest perfect. As you can see by the looks of it, I am no Betty Crocker, and this isn’t a picture you would dare find on Pinterest! For my son’s birthday I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice, so I had a friend of ours make a cake. Which was inspired by his favorite song by the wiggles, the teddy bear song. So, everybody clapped, and everybody sang and then we ate cake!
If it is your birthday, wouldn’t you want to receive a gift? How about receiving gifts all month long? Well, when your birthday is in December that is exactly what you get, gifts, all month long! With any gift there is the tradition where the gift is wrapped, and one must open the gift and unwrap it to discover what the present is. However, when it comes to our son this tradition is going to look a bit different. Though we are still wrapping his gifts, we learned this Christmas that he would much rather have a Christmas party with just him and one other close family member. Where the other person unwraps the gift for him and the gift must be unpackaged. For him not knowing what is inside the box does not suit well with him and he will lose interest quickly. I can empathize with him and anyone with a child on the spectrum knows when it comes to surprises, we don’t handle it very well. Which is the reason why me and my husband started the tradition of picking out our own Christmas gifts and sending pictures to the other person of what we wish for.
Well as the saying goes, another 365 days await! With more moments to celebrate and more traditions to keep. So, from the Kruckenberg’s Happy New Year! We look forward to 2025 as we continue sharing our experiences with you!
